Back In Time

I just saw this quote on one of the forums I frequent:
I believe we would be happier to
have a personal revolution in our
individual lives and go back to simpler
living and more direct thinking.

~Laura Ingalls Wilder

Now, nevermind that I am a HUGE fan of the 'Little House' series both in book and television--I grew up watching the Ingalls family and their 'homestead' trials and tribulations. Of course, back then it wasn't considered a homestead in the modernday sense of the term, but a farm. Today, a farm is a big corporation, or huge family and hired labor endeavor that makes what the Ingalls had a small time hobby farm of today--a homestead. Nevermind all that though, the idea encompased in her quote is a belief I and many hold to heart today. I don't know exactly when she said the above, but I do know that Mrs. Wilder passed away at the ripe age of 90 in 1957, so it had to be before that... thinking back of what life was like in the 50's you have to only imagine what Laura Ingalls Wilder would say about today's technologically paced world.

They say 'you can't go home again', maybe you can't 'go back' either. I don't think it really would be possible for the world as a whole to 'go back' to the simpler way of life, but I know that I enjoy trying as hard as I can to do it myself...and I know the happiness of which she speaks.

I think we don't have to "go back," but have the skills to survive, should circumstances force us into those situations.

Great to see you Bernita! You're right, of course, the problem is those skills aren't that easy to come by without some practice. Most people in today's world wouldn't know which way to turn should they be faced with such a situation. Probably as writers, we're more apt to adapt because we live so many different 'lives' and have so many 'learned' skills so to speak from all the research we do to put our characters through such hardships. haha

I come by, Tami - I just don't have much to say.
