Part of the Story
Think about what you write when you put every little detail in. Just like you would in real life, if your character gets engaged, she's going to be excited about shopping for the ring, or picking out the certified diamonds to create that special keepsake. It's true that you can't detail things in a book the way you do in real life, but it has to be believable as well. Putting in touches about the details brings sharp relief into the story. Highlight the fact that certified diamonds are conflict free and add educational value to your stories. That was always important to me growing up, reading the fiction I loved, I wanted to feel like I knew a little more about that time, that circumstance, the way things were done, etc. Who knows, your bride-to-be, or mother of the groom may end up being an International jewel thief, or it could be a simple detail, but it will still make your readers feel a part of the story, and better for having read it.
